Caroline Sawyer

LCSW

Professional Interests:

After relocating to Northwest Arkansas, Caroline joined the counseling staff at John Brown University. It was during this time that she discovered her love for one-on-one therapeutic work and the depth of connection possible in the counseling relationship. Following her work at the university, she entered private practice, where she has continued to serve clients for the past 25 years.

Caroline works with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions, trauma, and adjustment-related concerns. Through years of clinical practice and advanced EMDR training, she has developed a particular passion for working with clients presenting with trauma and complex trauma. Her therapeutic approach emphasizes trust, rapport, and collaboration, creating a safe and steady foundation for meaningful healing work.

Experience and Education:

Caroline is a licensed clinical social worker with more than 25 years of experience providing compassionate, clinically grounded therapy to individuals across the lifespan. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Harding University and her Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999. Caroline completed her supervision and earned her LCSW in 2003.

Caroline began her career in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric hospital settings, where she developed a strong clinical foundation working with complex mental health presentations. She later served as Director of Social Work Services at St. Vincent’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. During her tenure there, she completed her clinical supervision, obtained licensure, and received EMDR Level I and Level II training—an experience that would shape the focus of her future work.

She considers it a privilege to walk alongside individuals as they explore the experiences that have shaped who they are and who they are becoming. Caroline remains continually humbled by her work and values the reciprocal learning that occurs within the therapeutic relationship.

Personal:

Outside of her clinical work, Caroline has been married to her husband, Jay, for 26 years and is the mother of two daughters. She enjoys travel, exercising with friends, reading, and sharing adventures with family and friends.
